FAQ

How many Americans depend on hunting?

The United States has more than 300 million hunting dogs. That means there are nearly twice as many hunters as people living in New York City.

Hunting is a American pastime which dates back to centuries. Today, however, hunting for sport is less popular than ever. According to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service(FWS) says that only 2 per cent of the population hunts on a regular basis. Young adults are even less likely to hunt regularly.

Although hunting may seem like an outdated pastime, older generations still love it. According to a survey, 68% of baby boomers expect to hunt once again when they are older. Hunting for them is a way of connecting with nature and enjoying the outdoors.

For younger generations hunting is not necessarily a priority. In fact, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, only 18 percent of millennials consider themselves avid shooters.

FWS is determined to keep America's wild spaces open to everyone.

The agency launched "Wild Lands", a campaign to raise awareness of public lands across the nation in 2014. It is intended to raise awareness and encourage people visiting these areas to preserve them.

Conservation efforts are encouraged through Wild Lands. One example is the partnership between FWS and the National Rifle Association to create a youth shooting sports program called Project Gunter. The program teaches children how to safely use firearms and helps them improve their marksmanship and safety skills.

Project Gunter is expanding to include minorities and women. The result is that more children learn how to shoot guns, and are active participants in wildlife conservation.

How To

How to hunt wild ducks

Decoys are the best way to hunt wild birds. The best method is to use live decoy birds and set them up at a distance from your blind so you can see them from afar. Avoid hunting in windsy conditions, as the birds will flee very quickly. A few hunters might be too much for some birds.

Make sure to count the birds that you intend to shoot when hunting wild ducks. Don't shoot if it isn't clear what type of bird they are. Make sure you have enough ammunition to take down whatever number of birds you want.

If you do kill a lot of birds you will need to prepare the meat first. It is best to immediately cook the meat, as it can dry quickly once you begin cooking it. After the meat has been cooked, take out any bones or feathers.

Wild ducks are usually found near water but can also be seen flying through fields, woods and swamps. Their flight patterns are more open than others, and they can be easily spotted from the ground. You should keep your duck hunting adventures secret until you can get close enough for a shot. This means staying quiet and still while waiting for a chance to shoot.
