Mormon Trail Shooting

the big game hunting

A 1 ton flatbed truck full of firewood was traveling westbound on the Mormon Immigrant Trail at the time of the accident, when it hit a group of 35 motorcyclists riding two abreast in the eastbound lane. The truck lost control and careened across the westbound lanes. The truck struck and killed three motorcyclists.

Trail dangers

One of America's most iconic routes was the Mormon Emigrant Trail. It connected Missouri and Illinois to the Great Basin. Tens of thousands of emigrants took this route. The trail mostly followed preexisting tracks and brought hundreds of millions of Mormons into the Great Basin. The Mormons stayed in tents along the way, and some survived the rocky terrain and weather by shooting each other. The notorious "Donner Party" camped on a Sierra Nevada lake and remained there for several more days before being attacked by Native Americans.

Trading post/way station

A trading post/waystation was an area where emigrants could exchange goods and supplies. Early Mormons relied on wagons to transport their goods and provide shelter. The wagon would be used by the Mormons to temporarily shelter them until they could construct a permanent structure. While the average wagon contained three people, there were often eight pioneers in many "church teams". They would then make firewood from discarded materials.

Cholera outbreak

Emigrants were very concerned about Cholera. Although there was no cure for cholera at that time it was a real danger. While the disease has since been largely attributed to human error, the outbreaks in the 1850s and 1960s were a significant factor in the cholera epidemics. It had devastating effects on the emigrant trails.

Scavenging parties

It was essential to have supplies when traveling along the Mormon emigrant route. Many travelers left behind non-essential items. They would collect these items, and then trade them to get better quality. Mormons sent scavenging groups to collect supplies and bring them to Salt Lake City. They could turn the scrap iron into any type of item, including weapons and tools. Travelers even used their iron find for firewood.

Pioneers in Nebraska

Pioneers traveled 7 miles west to Sugar Creek near Lee, where they crossed the Mississippi River on ferries. Brigham Young joined the pioneers on February 15, 1845 and was present at Sugar Creek. After the shooting had stopped, the group headed west and reached Garden Grove, located 144 mi west of Nauvoo. It is 120 miles east of Council Bluffs. This settlement was the first permanent camp established between Winter Quarters & Nauvoo. Its pioneers created 715 acres of prairie sod and built cabins. The town was established in three weeks.

Accidental killers

The Trail's most notorious incident, the Mormon emigrants' death by Indians, happened in 1844. John Shotwell was a trail gunner who accidentally fired his gun. Shot in the chest, Shotwell died a few hours later. The leading men of the Mormon emigrants' company said that there was no innocent blood in the company.

How To

How to build a Deer Blind

A deer blind can be used as a hunting device to conceal game animals like deer and elk. It consists of a small enclosure made of wood or canvas, usually covered with branches and leaves. The hunter will hide inside the enclosure while he waits for his animal to pass. Hunting at night is easier with a deer blind.

Deer blinds come in many shapes and sizes. Some are portable and others are permanent. They are typically constructed out of materials like plywood, cardboard, plastic, canvas, or metal.

The most commonly used type of deerblinds is the box blind (also called box stand), which consists of a wooden box with roof and walls. Boxes are popular due to their ease of construction and transportation.

A tree stand is another type of deer blind. Tree stands are natural looking so that it is not obvious they exist. Tree stands are usually permanently attached to trees.

Ground blinds, similar to tree-stands but built into the ground, are another option. Ground blinds may be camouflaged with grass or dirt, rocks, or even sand. Ground blinds can also be called "ground boxes".

There are several different ways to hunt with a deer blind. You can wait for the animal's approach by sitting still. Another way is to move around and try to scare the animal away. If you decide to use this method, be sure to keep your distance and not move too fast. This could lead to an animal believing you are a threat and running off.

A deer blind can only be used in a specific spot. Choose a spot that isn't likely to blow your scent towards animals. Avoid hiking areas.

Finally, make sure you know how to properly set up the deer blind, because the last thing that you want to happen is for the animal to see you and run away.
